I hadn't bothered to lock >the counter to an external reference, and on measuring a Rubidium >source against its internal oscillator, got a reading about 1.4 x >10^-9 high, which matched perfectly this 70-second period Locking >the counter to an external reference, this beating went away.

Stratford shorebirds 10/30 ???
Tue, Oct 31, 2017 12:59 PM
10/30. Stratford, Beacon Point Rd, stratford Greenway. Yesterday afternoon Stefan Martin alerted me to a variety of shorebirds on the tidal mudflats here. Among the many BbPlovers and Dunlin were 1 AM GOLDEN PLOVER, 1 DOWITCHER sp, and a PECTORAL-type Sandpiper. SM thought the latter looked “very rufous” through his bins.

Once you get past about 1.0x10^-10 you may want to switch over to a pps based approach. More or less: >> >> Fire up 5335 with pps from gps / gpsdo and from the PRS-10.

[Ontbirds] Kingston Area Birds for the Period Feb 10 to Feb 16, 2012
Fri, Feb 17, 2012 2:24 PM
Much to the delight of the winter bird ecology field course participants currently visiting QUBS, it appears to have taken up a territory there. BARRED OWLS can be heard most nights as they begin singing in anticipation of the breeding season. A lone PINE SISKIN visited the feeders at QUBS for one afternoon; they remain scarce in the region.
