Re: [time-nuts] Homebrew H Maser

The first time I removed > the top > shield to access the RF section the Maser stopped oscillating! Replacing > the shield > restored oscillations! Hmm.. i'd guess that the oscillation went outside the cavity's resonant range. Other than shifting the resonance frequency and spreading the hyperfine lines, it should not have any other effect.

Re: T&T: anti-syphon loops

I have essentially this set up on our holding tank... the flow goes into the top of the tank, drops from the top to the bottom and exists at the bottom. A vent is installed at the top. The air space, between the top of the tank and the top of the level of the fluid breaks any attempt to form a syphon. With your macerator, I'm not sure.

Re: [time-nuts] Improving the stability of crystal oscillators

The standard crystals could almost maintain that tolerance in a nicely regulated room, but we had these radios out in transmitter shacks in the middle of corn fields, and with wide temperature swings the radio links would die completely. We first built a small proportional heater circuit that we could shove in next to the crystal, and that worked OK.

You could spend days going through all the datasheets and >> websites - I suspect that they ALL have about the same power consumption >> for a given amount of processing horsepower - same feature size on the >> die, after all - so it's more about peripherals and ease of use > > There are way too many, IMHO.
