Building my own Rb vapor cell standard or H-maser is on my list of Things-I-have-to-do-before-I-die :-) If I had to do one of those now, I would go for a Rb vapor cell with dual-resonance using an external cavity laser diode for pumping.

GPS Units in Z3801A

How often does the front end of the GPS module die? Will the newer 8 channel modules work in the Z3801A or do I need to locate an old 6 channel version? Is there a tells-all web page or message to this list about GPS modules for the Z3801A?

And if we *are* the reason these birds are showing up, and we're the part of "nature" that's responsible for this bird being here, is it "nature's" course to let it die, or to rescue it? I also wonder about the distinction between healthy and injured birds.

There, the larger concern is the die-off of Common Eiders, but all species found on Cape Cod Bay and Wellfleet Harbor shorelines are documented.

It puzzles me that the author seems worried about the number of migrants that die each year striking lighthouses, yet he seems a bit thrilled having shot birds for specimens.  I know, shooting was fairly common pre 1900's.

Hi Some, but not all, of the counters we saw die also had fan issues. I agree that once the fan goes, the power supply probably is running on borrowed time. Cleaning the fans and checking their function was part of the yearly “calibration” of the counters. I have no idea how may fans got replaced as part of that process.
