Re: [time-nuts] OCXO and fluctuations after EFC adjustment

Keysight sells a very high end Arbitrary Waveform Generator that is essentially a DDS that goes up to 5 or 10 GHz. It is all on one custom chip. When I retired, they were still planning to add an 8 GHz whispering gallery oscillator as a time base. BTW, that oscillator did have EFC so it could be locked to a 10 MHz reference.

You can see the background by Googling up that name and drilling down about 10 pages. The system is no longer in production and is being sold thru various scavengers. I bought a complete system with all the bells and whistles for $800 last year and was greatly impressed by the quality of construction.

A cheap oil boom

The major issue was going to be how to secure the 3 mil vinyl sheeting around the pool noodles. It turned out that a good high temp hot glue gun did the trick. You want the glue to just start to melt the sheeting and then put a block of wood, or a gloved hand on that glob of glue.

Re: [time-nuts] HP and other equipment failure - availability

I once saw a surplus store crammed with wire- teflon, pvc, mil-spec, enamel, all gauges and colors, price was cheap, used rolls of 22 ga. teflon, 500+ feet were $10-15. A few months later, I went again, ALL GONE! Store cleaned out! When I asked Wolf, the owner what happened, he said " Price of copper went up...."
