Re: [time-nuts] 10MHz standard for comms receivers

While the "instruction rate" might vary with the needs of the moment and die temperature, there's usually some clock and corresponding counter that runs at a relatively constant rate so the CPU knows what time it is. That said, a 10 ppm (or even 50 ppm) oscillator in a PC would be "high performance" My macbook air shows 56.652 in ntp.drift

I'd try swapping in a new set just to be sure one didn't die. Otherwise, you've probably got some difficult diagnosing to do. Can you get anything over the RS-232 link? -- Bill Ezell ---- They said 'Windows or better' so I used Linux.

Maybe not quite as spectacular as yesterday as the flight seemed to die somewhere off to our east from reports I received late day but the numbers were pretty darn impressive. As well as the great flight of Broad-winged Hawks http://hawkcount.org/day_summary.php?rsite=149&ryear=2012&rmonth=09&rday=16 We also managed to get a decent morning passerine flight.

ould LeConte's Sparrow be fourth and Calliope seventh!" I railed silently in my mind. Then it dawned on me, I was being (as the Brits say) rather a Prat. The list is clearly just what it should be, the result of a cross section of the birders who responded, a summation of field ornithology and pure birding pleasure. In reality, it matters very little to me what birds are on the list, but it matters infinitely more that there are people who are interested enough to make the list in the first place. I do have one side thought though, when Frank sent the original email he accidently left House Sparrow on the missive when he cut and pasted. No criticism intended here, just read my blog if you want to see typos. But Roger Tory Peterson had a particular soft spot for House Sparrows, I wonder if he were still with us if he would voted for it? I wouldn't blame him if he did. Dave Provencher
