Dead fish on the Quinnipiac

RV

I live on the Quinnipiac, and I'm seeing dead fish floating up-river with the incoming tide--about a half dozen so far, spaced out about five minutes apart. I don't know if this is part of the kill-off from the Mill River sewage/bleach debacle of a few days ago.

I'm concerned about the osprey. If the fish were killed by bleach, I hope the concentrations have leveled out enough not to harm the birds.

What kind of fish if you know.
Menhaden (bunker) sometimes die off in hot weather.

They could have been menhaden, although they looked more slender. The size was 8 to 12 inches. That makes me feel better about the osprey.

I was on the Sound Wednesday and NH Harbor is filled with schools of menhaden this week. They do have dieoffs in hot weather due to low oxygen. But it could also be the sewage leak. Oxygen was lower than the last time we measured it 2 weeks ago.Mary MushinskyRiver Advocates of South Central CT

Now there are about a dozen vultures wheeling around, just north of the Grand Avenue bridge on Front Street (New Haven).
