Despite the disclaimer, your hack also works well on Chrome. The webtiming paper <http://sip.cs.princeton.edu/pub/webtiming.pdf> you referenced suggests domain tagging as a (limited) counter measure. Domain Tagging would thwart your current PoC.

All through Canada there are local libraries where you can check your mail if you set it up to be able to do so from a web browser as well as from your own laptop. Coming down the rivers we also found occasional places where they supplied a phone connection for a laptop. Good luck.... Bill
