[Ontbirds] HSR: Grimsby, ON - Beamer Conservation Area (26 Mar 2015) 11 Raptors
Thu, Mar 26, 2015 9:03 PM
All counting is done by volunteers. Not all members are counters nor does a counter have to be a member. Typically one person is the designated counter for each day but other observers present assist with the spotting and identification. Counting is done from a steel observation tower with a wooden floor.

Re: Top 10 Trawlers/Grand Banks 42 Classic

I would appreciate hearing from someone who has gone all the way out the St. Lawrence to the Atlantic then down the Canadian Maritimes. The GB42, with over 1400 hulls in the water by now is surely one of the Top 10 in at least popularity. We found it a very comfortable and reliable coastal cruiser, true to its billing. BTW While working with a bare PIC requires some hard to acquire skills, new uP platforms like Arduino make software easy for just about anyone. -- Chris Albertson Redondo Beach, California

Re: T&T: "Poly" rope confusion
Fri, Mar 28, 2008 9:59 PM
"Nylon", which is actually now a generic name (first coined by duPont) for an entire family of fibers with somewhat different characteristics, is technically a "polyamide." So all the line you've discussed is "poly" of one sort or another, which makes sense, since virtually all man-made petrochemical fibers are made from polymers. FWIW.

Electronics, tankage, cushions, etc. are all cheap and easy to add/replace. 6. The view of the anchorage or shore from the cockpit of a 30 foot boat is the same as from the cockpit of a 60 foot boat. 7. Go small, go now. 8. Be sure to get a boat in which you will be proud to be seen arriving."
