[Ontbirds] Whitby--Cranberry Marsh, 10-Sep-2015 Hawk Watch

It was a great day at the Cranberry hawk watch - sunny, light clouds with
north wind in first part of day, then east then southeast .. birds mostly
high flyers but some came low to tease us ...

112 raptors counted as migrants

highlights of the 58 species seen today:

Wood Duck (Aix sponsa)  35
Great Blue Heron (Ardea herodias)  12
Great Egret (Ardea alba)  18    one wing tagged # 892
Green Heron (Butorides virescens)  1
Black-crowned Night-Heron (Nycticorax nycticorax)  1
Turkey Vulture (Cathartes aura)  7
Osprey (Pandion haliaetus)  14
Northern Harrier (Circus cyaneus)  4
Sharp-shinned Hawk (Accipiter striatus)  38
Cooper's Hawk (Accipiter cooperii)  2
Bald Eagle (Haliaeetus leucocephalus)  2    1st and 2nd year birds
Broad-winged Hawk (Buteo platypterus)  3
Red-tailed Hawk (Buteo jamaicensis)  1
Buteo sp. (Buteo sp.)  2
Sora (Porzana carolina)  1
Semipalmated Plover (Charadrius semipalmatus)  2
Killdeer (Charadrius vociferus)  1

36 Monarchs, Summer Azure, a Comma, a Clouded Sulphur and several Cabbage
Whites also noted - few dragonflies

Directions: Exit from the 401 at Brock St. in Whitby. Go south on Brock St.
to Victoria St. Go west on Victoria St. to Halls Road. Go south on Halls Rd
to the 2nd walkway to Cranberry Marsh.

The data will be submitted to HMANA and eBird.
