After 22 years I sold my boat (43' Gulfstar MS). I have a Panasonic, CF-30FQL55AM, Toughbook, laptop with my Maptech navigation software and USB GPS. The Toughbook pc is a fully rugged construction, designed for the police and military. The screen can be viewed in direct sunlight and stand up to water & tough treatment.
On the hard drive I have about 8,000 charts (almost all the US & Caribbean, including all "Great Loop" charts). This pc acted as a stand-a-lone chart plotter. It uses the GPS to track the vessels position progress and when things got boring I had a pc to get on the internet when I had Wi-Fi or play solitary (Great to search for Marinas, fuel and local restaurants).
