We've virtually never had a problem with finding space at a marina due to our beam. We select marinas like everybody else, usually from the relevant Dozier guide, and we do tend to call ahead to reserve, or at least check whether they have space. I always warn them that we have a cat and a beam of 21 feet. So they find us an end-tie or a side-tie and I think they save it for us when they know we're coming.
Now, if everybody wises up and buys a catamaran, then we'll probably start tripping over each other and we'll run out of available dock space. But until then, I say "go for it."
The one issue we have run into is the relatively few yards that can haul us out (because of our beam) and store us on the hard during our 'off-season.' We couldn't find any yards in South Carolina or Georgia, but were very happy and well-treated at Bennett Brothers in Wilmington NC and at Captain's Cove in Beridgeport CT. Both had lifts that were wide enough to haul Hog Wild out, and lots of good safe storage on land. Good people in the front office and the yard too.

Bruce can you tell us about what it is like trying to find slips for a 21 foot beam boat when traveling? Also any suggestions on Cat friendly marina's in your travels. I am looking to do the great loop next year on our lagoon power cat and I would like to hear from other power cat owners who have done this trip.

We have a Lagoon 44 and have put about 2500 miles on it in the past 3 years, traveling all up and down the East Coast from Maine to Florida (now in Palm Beach waiting for a weather window to head to the Bahamas). We have been very satisfied with its performance, reliability, and comfort. We have the 310HP Volvo Penta engines and get about one mile per gallon cruising at 15 knots. We love the abundant space outside, especially the table on the upper deck, great for breakfast in the sun. We put a bimini cover with zip-out windshield on the upper helm and run it from there all the time.

I'm seriously considering a 44 foot owners version Lagoon power cat. I'm looking at a few on that are listed. And any others that someone might know of. Does anyone have any specific compliments or issues I should consider? Thanks Joe horse_money@yahoo.com
