Howdy,

Huntsville, Texas (pop. 34,000) is home to Sam Houston State University
(enrollment approx. 16,000), named in honor of the former resident and
Texas hero who led Texian forces to independence at the Battle of San
Jacinto, was twice president of the Republic, and governor and U.S.
Senator after statehood.  Dan Rather got his journalism degree at "Sam."
Huntsville is 70 miles north of Houston on I-45 between Houston and
Dallas.

All the issues mentioned sound very familiar to our experiences.

Brig's additional comments about the capital city problem with tax
exempt land are familiar, too.  While we are not the state capital, the
headquarters of the Texas prison system is located here, with multiple
administration and a half-dozen units in the county, plus state and
national forest land cause frustrations about managing a city whose real
estate is dominated by tax-exempt property.
