Snip..
"Actually, trawler operators seem to have much more in common in terms
of attitude and responsibility with sailboaters than the go-fast or
sportfishing crowds. "

Well of course we are better mannered are we not?  Seriously it is
probably because we can not go fast and most of us are ex-blowboaters
no?  (I know not all).

Us "recovering sailors" still have good manners for the most part, but I
have noticed more and more "whining sailors" complaining about wake as you
pass them 300' off in Albemarle.  My guess is they don't get out much...

                                      Regards....

I would imagine that us trawler owners are in it for the boating
lifestyle.  We enjoy the challenge, the work, and the voyage.  Sailboaters
do too I suppose.  The other groups are into boats because they need them
to catch fish, or the go-fasters are looking to catch the ladies...

You mean to say that all I need is a go-fast boat to catch the ladies????

I could have saved $$$$ over the years.......

[PaulC says:] I was specifically told that full displacement boats were
in fact babe magnets. D'oh.

I'm forced to jump on this thread. My Admiral and I are both ex-sailors that
have moved to a Trawler (retired and want to go cruising). I also do a lot of
fishing (in and off shore) on friends boats. To fisherman the only thing that
counts is getting there fast and (to a lesser degree) comfortably). The "go
fast set, whether in a small or larger boat (depends on the available $) all
seem to have a testosterone problem, especially the crowd in the Cigarette
type boats.  Courtesy or knowledge of the "rules of the road"  are unknown to
this group.  These are what I call the "wine and cheese set".

My Admiral and I (ex-sailors) have coined a term for many of those
other-than-trawler type boats. We call them "pointy window boats".

Do windows pointed at the ends really reduce drag? They sure reduce
visibility from inside. We love out large (360 degree awareness) cabin
windows. We cruise to places worth looking at.
