I have a Force 10 propane stove/oven on Sanderling. Over the past 3-4 years
the black paint or black lining on the inside of the glass on the oven door
has been peeling off, exposing the insullation. I've searched for a way to
open the framing of the door to gain access to the glass (thinking I'd
spray it with black furnace paint) but can find nothing but rivets holding
the door frame together. It looks like the u-shaped chrome frame is then
bent around the glass and interior structure and I'm afraid to "unbend" it
even if I drilled out the rivets.
I've thought about placing a thin piece of brushed aluminum or stainless
steel over the glass and fastening it into place with caulk, but would
prefer a black non-painted finish (for ease of clean up).
I don't think that heat is a problem - the door seems to be well insulated
and it's never been hot to the touch. I've also tried to find some sort of
very thin flexible metalic veneer with a sticky backing to lay over the
existing glass, but haven't located anything.
Any suggestions about how to repair the peeled paint or at least improve
the appearance of the door?

Listees,
Concorde Industries makes a line a AGM batteries for marine use under the
Lifeline brand. When I bought Skooch last year she had 4 Lifeline D8s about
12 months old. While the boat was getting new transmisions in Fla, 3 of the
four AGMs shorted out. Last week I finally got around to calling Concorde
to see if they would honor a warentee.
I am writing this note because in my case I find it rare when a company
feels strongly about the quality of their products. Concorde was not happy
their batteries shorted out, and asked many questions which they should.
They also honored their regular warranty against more of their own
batteries and I could change sizes to their new 6 Volt AGMs. Incidental, my
receipt for the batteries was for the previous owner of Skooch and a photo
copy, not the original.
I picked up four 6 volts and they are drop shipping 4 more with a credit of
$890 for 3 shorted out D8s. A very good company to deal with as is their
distributor Battery Warehouse in Annapolis.
No affiliation, battery web sites, I don't sell batteries.
Also, I picked AGMs because Hatteras put all the batteries on the far side
of the Stb motor and they are basically inacceptable to all but the most
agile bilge monkey, which I use to be, but am no longer. In fact it cost
$250 to hire marina people to remove the D8s for me. Now I have 80 lb 6
volts I hope to manage myself.

We can not tell why the AGMs shorted out. Lifeline tested them and agreed
they are shorted out. We are running some tests to make sure the charger is
functioning properly on that bank as the motors were not run for 3 months.
Also, the battery people said if the shipyard left the boat unplugged and
drained the batteries (perhaps left the engine room lights on for a few
weeks) that the AGMs do not like to be totally discharged for long perods,
like months. The ship yard said they did not do anything like that. So we
do not know.
This winter and spring I will install a 3K inverter charger and start over,
we may never know.
