Garrett and All,

<< However, the intended target of my "Shooting from the Lip" post was
primarily to ask that we cease and desist from cutting one-liners. They add
nothing to the discourse and take a lot away from the List. >>

<<And that brings me to your comment about the accuracy - or not - of
information on TWL which I'll cover in a separate post. >>

I started to privately send Garrett a concurrence, but thought possibly
someone else may find food for thought in the following:

I generally accept that most posts begin with an untyped "In My Humble
Opinion" caveat. Kinda like "Caveat Emptor" - buyer beware, or "YMMV" - your
mileage may vary. Still, I think those who post present the best information
they may have on the given subject. Some subjects are very subjective, such
as "the best anchor" and are therefore based upon opinions as much as
concrete facts, while others are objective, such as the depth over the sill
of a lock is x feet. But even the objective subjects have room for variations
of fact and opinion, especially those that can, in fact vary. What may have
been true at one point in time may not be true at a later point.

In addition, many "accepted truths" on one coast may not be accepted as even
half true on the other, or what works in cold climates may not hold for warm
climates and vice versa.

As long as a poster presents his honest opinions based upon facts as he sees
them or his personal experience, there should be no problem and he should
never be flamed upon. That does not mean someone cannot/should not disagree
with him, but that disagreement should always be presented with proper
decorum.

I will add; however, that there are a (very) few vocal folks on the list who
seem to delight in using inane comments to ridicule folks who have posted
something to the list. After reading some of those comments, my opinion of
the folks who post them drops to such a level that I often just delete their
posts because their opinion/input has become inconsequential to me.

Take care, be safe and enjoy the Holidays!
