From SH Johnston:
04/25/14 - West Hartford/Farmington line, Rt 4 -- 6:50 PM; LITTLE BLUE
HERON seen flying east from Farmington into West Hartford, alighting
on point on land visible from Route 4. I was driving east on Rt 4 and
could not stop to look, but size, color (especially dark head and
light base of bill), and behavior were diagnostic. Very swift agile
flight, and an amazing display of whiffling, the zig-zagging
side-slipping motion frequently seen in ducks and geese during rapid
descent. I've never seen that behavior in so large a bird. It was
magnificent. I nearly drove off the road.
From Paul Desjardins:
04/25/14 - Branford, Branford Supply Ponds -- Common Raven.
