In much the same manner as the other night, I just now had a cave swallow fly over my yard on the beach in Fairfield into the sunset, again flying so low that I could ID it without binoculars. Also, just like last time, I found it by accident as I went outside to drop off something at my neighbor's house. Incredible!

CT Birders -

This afternoon I stepped outside to hear all the birds alarming and scanned the area for what I was sure to be an accipiter. To my surprise I found an immature plumaged Merlin atop a very tall weeping spruce that just this fall hosted an adult male American Kestrel.

Possibly the conservation work to create a more open habit at MVSS is proving attractive to the falcons as well!

Pretty cool!
