Hurricane Jimena

We are in Marina Real in San Carlos Sonora Mexico, 27 56 N 111 05 W,
well out of the predicted path of Hurricane Jimena but within it's 'area
of influence'. A 'Tropical Storm' watch ,winds up to 63 knts, has been
issued for the entire Mexican mainland coast up to an area about 50 km
north of us. It is predicted that we'll see winds in the 30-40 kts
range, 2"-4" of rain from Tues PM thru Thurs PM, and 9-15' seas.

The sea swells are what have us concerned in the marina as Wed is also a
full moon with the associated high tides and the finger piers in the
marina are not that strong and a large swell surge could cause them to
break apart and sink. We are tied to the pillings and are ready to cut
our lines to the finger piers if they start to fail (we've seen that
happen already this summer). We'll most likely be alright, most of the
boats here have absentee owners up in the states and have done nothing
to prepare.

The web site most of us follow, along with www.hurricane.gov, is
http://www.eebmike.com/. It looks like Cabo and la Paz are going to miss
the eye of the hurricane but will get some very strong winds. There are
lots of sail boats in the Sea of Cortez and we all hope they'll all be safe.

Paz are going to miss the eye

of the hurricane but will get some very

strong winds.

3:30pm.  I'm sitting in my condo in Cabo San Lucas right now,
during the supposedly height of the "storm".  Rain has been very light.  Winds
are variable at 15 to 25 knots.  Surf along our stretch of the beach has been
8 to 10 feet.  The eye of the storm is due west of us, about 100 miles out
in the Pacific, moving NNW and out of our area.  WOW, the sun has just peeked
out!

This storm has been pretty much a "non-event" in our area.
