Official Counter: Chris Burris
Observers: Dave Brown, Mac McAlpine, Tom Bolohan
Visitors:
Thanks to Ken, Ronnie, Harold, Michelle, Richard, Eric and the many others
who helped with spotting today. Some had their first (and second and...)
Golden today. Congrats to all who took part in this amazing day.
Weather:
Mostly sunny to begin, mostly cloudy to end; temps ranged from 1C to 7C.
Winds were modest but steady, mostly NW.
Raptor Observations:
A stunning 42 Golden Eagles -- one of the highest counts since formal
record keeping began in 2000. Most were subadults: Birds were low and high,
inland and near the lake. Two American Goshawks -- one doing the usual low
dash, the other perched to shake off the unpleasantness of the banding
station -- added excitement. Non-trivial numbers of buteos also moved
through.
Non-raptor Observations:
Good numbers of American Pipits and Eastern Bluebirds were noted, among
others. eBird list here: https://ebird.org/checklist/S154261876
Predictions:
Partly sunny with moderate E to SE winds mean a more modest flight.
