BUY, SELL AND TRADE TRAWLERS AND TRAWLERING GEAR
View all threadsI just got back from the Stuart, Florida Boat Show with this boat, many
people who came on board said they thought it was the best value in the
show. However they needed to sell a smaller boat, or sell a house, or wait
until college tuition was over, all the normal things we deal with everyday.
The boat is a 1986 53' Defever P.O.C. with three staterooms and three heads,
galley up, stabilized. Defever is well known for trawler designs, the POC
was designed to be able to run faster with a semi-displacement hull. The
current owner, who has had the boat since 2000, tells me he ran the boat at
8 knots using around 8 gallons per hour, but liked the idea that he could
push the speed up when needed, or when entering an inlet with a following
sea. The boat has CAT 375 hp 3208 engines. In 2004 they were removed from
the boat and rebuilt. The owner says they were running fine, but with 10,000
hours he was worried about his trip to Florida from Canada. He said the
rebuild was $50,000, which not just a few hose clamps and an oil change!
Current hours from his log are around 1500.
There are two generators and in 2004 the 9KW generator was replaced with a
new one (now 1600 hours) and the other, a 16kw had the diesel engine
rebuilt, (900 hours) For alternative power is a TRACE 4000 watt inverter
running from a dedicated bank of house batteries.
Also done at that time was a complete Awlgrip paint job from waterline to
the top of the arch, including removal of windows to be sanded and repainted
and then rebedded with new gaskets. The teak handrails were painted with
Awlgrip and there never were teak decks, so there is no exterior teak.
The outside looked spectacular so his wife oversaw the interior refit with
all new overhead lights, a new galley with black full size side by side
refrigerator, black dishwasher, black full size oven and cook top. The
counters were covered in Black Galaxy granite along with almost every flat
surface of the boat including all three heads, the pilothouse and wet bar
and table in the salon. New upholstery and valances with indirect lighting
are themed with the granite and all teak floors were refinished. She also
picked the color of the Bimini top and tender cover to go with the blue
stripe along the boat and also on the waterline.
About six months ago lightning struck the boat, not bad enough to hurt the
refrigerator, air conditioning or other electrical items, but bad enough to
replace the electronics. So there is a new VHF, Autopilot, new control head
for the Naiad stabilizers, and a new Furuno Nav Net with Furuno radar and
also running Nobeltec software on a Nauticomp daylight video display. This
is all still under warranty.
The boat is stored undercover here in Fort Lauderdale right outside my
office so it is easy to see. Asking $399,000 and I just sold a bigger boat
to the owner so he is motivated. Contact me for more details or see on Yacht
World.
