The BareFoot Collective is pleased to announce MOBILIZE, an evening of
concert dance in the Jan Collum Ballroom at the Merlino Arts Center.
Co-Directors
Carrie Goodnight M.F.A. and Amanda Herman M.F.A. will be presenting four new
works as well as showcasing the talents of choreographers Ellie Klopp and
Nicole Sasala of The Asterisk Project.  MOBILIZE marks a season of
collaborations with dancers from Seattle, Tacoma, and Gig Harbor as the
BareFoot Collective continues to make connections with talented performers
around Puget Sound.  The evening also features musicians Erica Coutsouridis
and Meredith Connie as well as the work of Eugene, OR composer Christian
Cherry.

The show opens with live music on the guitar and flute which blends into
Goodnight’s dark trio “Echoes.”  Merging pensive movement with a looping and
haunting score, “Echoes” explores an unearthly realm of quiet contemplation
punctuated by aggressive avian flurries.  Following the trio, and
accompanied by a striking single female vocalist, is the emotionally charged
solo "what you do not know and will not miss."  Originally conceived as
choreographic collaboration between Herman and Ellie Klopp, "what you do not
know and will not miss" is an abstractly narrative work inviting the
audience to accompany Herman as she journeys amongst memories of the distant
and recent past.  The first half of the concert concludes with Goodnight’s
witty romp “The Ladies That Lunch” supported by Cherry’s jazzy score and
characterized by fussy handbag-toting matrons who seem to inhabit a world of
their own making.

After intermission, the audience will be treated to Goodnight’s intimate
duet “With Her or Without Her.”  Full-bodied and gestural, this duet weaves
a complex and questioning relationship between two talented female dancers.
Next, guest artist Nicole Sasala of The Asterisk Project presents “Front
Porch,” an improvisational solo that follows the impulses and momentum of
daydreams.  Sasala uses her breath and a harmonica to create a sound score
that illustrates her passing thoughts and shifting memories.  “Front Porch”
is part of a full-length work-in-progress by The Asterisk Project that will
explore other areas of the home through the moods and memories associated
with them.  The show concludes with Herman’s latest work “Fragmentary Blue.”
Working with a cast of seven highly trained and capable dancers, Herman
departs from the humorous nature of her recent works to explore more
traditional themes.  Set to a collection of upbeat and lively baroque
scores, "Fragmentary Blue" presents a strong use of balletic line infused
with a contemporary aesthetic that is sure to delight the senses and
invigorate the spirit.

MOBILIZE is presented Friday and Saturday, April 23 and 24 at 8pm in the Jan
Collum Ballroom in the Merlino Arts Center.  Tickets are $15 (General) and
$12 (Students/Seniors) available at the door (Cash or Check) or online at
www.brownpapertickets.com.  For more information please contact Carrie
Goodnight at 253-777-8728 or carrie@barefootcollective.org.
