Highlights of reports received December 3 through December

Exceptionally mild December weather, to date, and good gull
activity on the Niagara River.
December 5 and 6, a BLACK-HEADED GULL near the river source,
at the water treatment plant on Unity Island in Buffalo. The
gull has been found early and late in the day with
BONAPARTE'S GULLS, at the first settling pond, south of the
railroad bridge entrance road, viewed from the path along
the river side of the island. A FISH CROW was also heard
over the river at the railroad bridge on the 6th.
This week on the lower Niagara River, at the Whirlpool, a
juvenile BLACK-LEG. KITTIWAKE. Viewing the power plants from
the Adam Beck overlook in Ontario, adult THAYER'S GULL,
several ICELAND GULLS and L. BLACK-B. GULLS, but no GLAUCOUS
GULLS. An immature male HARLEQUIN DUCK continues on the New
York shore downriver of the power plants, and a COMMON RAVEN
soaring over the plants with TURKEY VULTURES and a BALD
EAGLE. Also, two LITTLE GULLS among abundant BONAPARTE'S
GULLS on the lower river.
Above Niagara Falls, a female and immature male HARLEQUIN
DUCK on the rocks at the stranded barge, and two BL.-GR.
GNATCATCHERS continue a record late stay at Dufferine
Islands Park by the control gates in Ontario.
Other reports this week - RED-THROATED LOON at Golden Hill
State Park boat launch, on Lake Ontario in Niagara County.
On Hilltop Road in Elma, a roosting BALD EAGLE, mobbed by
crows. And a reported SNOW BUNTING near the Buffalo Airport.
