Cruising America's Great Loop and other inland routes
View all threadsHi All,
Bravo to Bill & El Fiero. Mega thanks for providing us ice-locked
boaters with your incredible adventures. Reading about the cruising
adventures of fellow mariners keeps us focused on the rapidly
approaching summer (wishful thinking - there was a half inch of ice on
the roads this morning in Vermont :-)
I know we have brought this up in the past but, I wish there were a list
of links somewhere to the trip logs folks have so generously left on the
web after their trip for the rest of us to share. We took the lead of
others for the first time and documented our (rather mundane) trip from
Lake Champlain down to New York City and back this past summer. It is
on the web at:
http://www.gmavt.net/~pbrownell/2004nyc.htm
If there is anyone else on the list who knows of some web sites where
people have documented their trips, I'm sure we all would love to hear
about them.
Hope you all had a fun and safe new year.

For anyone who is interested, we have posted our trip log from Ft Myers FL
to the Chesapeake Bay back in 01 aboard our new to us 47' Chris Craft. It
is at www.mrtoad.0catch.com
Be advised, it's a free site and does have a couple pop up ads at first.
The log is only 1 webpage as I threw it up a few years ago just to share
with a
few people. I can also send it as a doc attachment to whoever requests from
me.
We just purchased the boat and never even piloted by ourselves. Just the
owner
during survey. 1600 miles on a 30+ year boat (Okeechobee was too
shallow-TrawlerFest was in Ft Myers that year and some trawlers got beat up
from the low water levels.) What an adventure. My wife
wrote this chronologically and she portrays me as a type A personality,
which I am. We
drove to FL in a one way rental after working all day. Started out with
sleep deprivation and it only got worse as the days went on. 200 engine
hours. I drove 190+/- of those hours myself. We lost 1 week to weather and
2 days to breakdowns. Crew consisted of myself, my wife, sister and brother
in law. Bro in-law jumped ship in Charleston SC as he had to get back to
work. Took me over a year for the nightmares to stop waking me up at home.
Can't wait to do it again! (next time will not be a delivery schedule)

Chris,
Just started reading your trip log -- very funny -- we
can relate to many items. Your wife is a great writer
-- I'm sitting at my desk laughing (of course with
you, seeing that we have been there done that).
Thanks for sharing your trip log.
