If you prefer to anchor out AND would like to visit the sights of
Manhatten a good option is the harbor at Atlantic Highlands, N. J.
The anchoring is good about a mile east of the marinas and well
protected from all but southerly storms.  There is a high speed ferry
service into New York City.  I think that it cost about $25 round trip.
Atlantic Highlands is behind the western  side of the entrance to New
York Harbor at Sandy Hook.  Good fuel prices here also.
