“Soundings” magazine has an obituary on Larry Briggs at:

“Champion’s” circumnavigation was serialized in “Sea” magazine.  I recall “Champion” being built of teak, with a varnished hull.  Later I saw her cruising the main channel of Santa Barbara Harbor, and was told Fess Parker owned her.  The bird was allowed out of its cage during the circumnavigation, being put in its hanging barred, spherical cage when in port.
I took a San Diego harbor cruise aboard “Invader.”  She was in pretty poor shape.  Nothing like she is today.
