It looks like the 5071B is official. Microchip put out a press release and video. Release video: https://youtu.be/1wlOkcCk2gU Press release: https://www.google.com/amp/s/finance.yahoo.com/amphtml/news/cesium-atomic-clock-provides-autonomous-120000702.html Press coverage so far (mostly parroting the Press release) https://www.electronicsweekly.com/news/products/rf-microwave-optoelectronics/cesium-atomic-clock-100ns-hold-over-can-run-5g-for-months-2023-06/ https://www.datacenterdynamics.com/en/news/cesium-clock-synchronizes-telecoms-systems-precisely-for-months/ -Eric KI7LTT

Two questions from the announcements: 1) what is the "lifetime of the
product"? and 2) what's the price?  I'm assuming the answer to the
latter is if you have to ask, you can't afford one :-)

70k isn't all that bad in the context of, say, 50 GHz signal generators
or VNAs, if you have a "work related" need where the ubiquitous SRS Rb
won't do.

Hi

The 5071 has two tube options. You can get a high performance tube. That one lasts 6 to 7 years running full time. You can opt for the standard tube with lower specs,  but a lifetime out in the > 15 years range.

When the high performance tube goes out, you send the entire box back to the factory. They look it over and decide if it can be re-tubed. If so they charge you something > $40K for the new tube and installation / alignment .

Best guess is that the standard tube version is > $70K. The high performance tube likely adds > $20K to that number. Again, only guesses, and assuming we’re talking about 1 piece. What the price does at 100 or 1,000 pieces …. who knows ….

The whole “qualify the customer before the quote” is not all that unusual.
