I haven’t seen them posted here, so I wanted to make CT Birders aware of two western rarities currently in our state.
Yesterday, Nick Bonomo found a BLACK-THROATED GRAY WARBLER at the Trumbull wastewater treatment plant in New London. According to eBird, the bird is still being seen, and there is one report from within the last hour. Here are the coordinates: 41.343087,-72.096004
Also within the last hour, David Mathieu found a SPOTTED TOWHEE at Bluff Point in Niantic. The report from the CT Audubon Rare Bird Alert was as follows:
CTAudubonRBA: female-type SPOTTED TOWHEE at Bluff Point in GROTON.
Coordinates: 41.3129569,-72.0305380

Sorry for not posting earlier. The NL CBC team got the back throated gray
plus 3 palm and 1 pine warbler at the New London sewage treatment plant
along Smith St. this morning. All quite cooperative.
