FLorida Precedent

We are Florida residents, Trawler owner, land owner, and former waterfront land owner.  We have participated in the FWC surveys and watched the process these last few years and sent many pro-boating anchoring communications to various entities.

The anti-anchoring faction is backed by a few wealthy waterfront landowners.  Their lobbyist is well funded and has been successful in furthering their interests.  They are persistent.  I greatly fear that if they gain this foothold in the Public Trust Domain it will be a precedent and slippery slope into other states.

Yes, the derelict boat issue is fundamental but this is an enforcement issue and recent changes are improving the ability to deal with these derelict boats.

We are not only fighting for our rights as boaters to reasonably use these Public waters, we need to be the stewards for future generations of boaters!

Over the time my wife and I lived around the Gulf it seemed that cruisers
are fighting against that old adage, "All politics are local". Beating
against power blocs requires power, period. Associations and groups are
fine but unless your interests are shared by locals we are an afterthought.
Afterthoughts are occupied, mostly, by non-voters, live-free-or-die types
or non-residents.
Just because we pay sales tax doesn't make us any kind of a resident. You
may note that tourist destinations have low income tax but high transaction
taxes, there is a reason for that. Why should locals pay anything when
there's a tourist born every millisecond.
I ask my kids who they voted for in the local, municipal races. They are
learning that those are as important as any other offices up for grabs.
Sorry for the diatribe.
