Teak posts for cabinet support in galley

At some point in the past, prior to our owning the boat, the counter
tops in the galley were replaced with Corian. When this was done, the
support posts for overhead cabinets had to be removed. For some
reason, they were not reinstalled after the job.

I have always wondered about this, and whether the posts were
functional, or just decorative. Well, I found out this weekend. The
Admiral noticed that the cabinets at the end have dropped  about 3/8".

So, I need to locate a couple of these things and get them installed
pronto, before the cabinets let go. Anyone have an idea of where I can
find something like this?

Assuming that the supports are teak, they will cost some real money. Two SS
poles would look fine and cost less. Any cabinet builder with a lathe can
turn these out although teak will eat up HSS tools. Many companies make
ready-made posts for the cabinet trade, but the closest you might get is
cherry or mahogany. If it were me, I'd prop them up immediately with
anything to include PVC pipe and get a craftsman to make polished SS poles
with flanges.

Great idea, Ron!

I guess I just got stuck in the mindset of going back with the same
thing. Actually, I would prefer something other than teak, so I don't
have to worry about varnishing, etc.

I do intend to to immediately prop it up with something. Heading to
Lowe's tonight to see what I can come up with, even if it is a 2x4!

Thanks,

Ken

REPLY -
http://www.thaiteakmarine.com would be the only source I could think of.
Anybody with a lathe could make these - Spanish cedar, cherry, locust... not
going to be cheap though.

Thought just struck me - check out Lowes for spindles for staircases - most
likely ash or oak - should be long enough or you could cut them...

How about using stainless, brass or bronze?
