Swan Song La Paz to Honolulu upcoming passage

Swan Song will be leaving from La Paz, Mexico on Tuesday for Cabo San Lucas.
A brief pit stop to top the fuel and then we'll head out for Honolulu, HI on
the AM of the 5th if all goes according to plan.

The weather looks like it will be a bit lumpy till we clear the Baja coast
about 200 miles and then we're hoping for a good ride the rest of the way.

With an estimated distance of 2800 miles fuel dock to fuel dock we have up'd
our normal capacity of 1275 gals with a 200 gal foredeck bladder and 300
gals in 15 gal plastic "jerry jugs" that fit securely in our side deck
walkways. We'll have 1800 gals of fuel aboard which we could stretch out to
over 4000 nm if we had to but will manage the fuel burn/speed ratio to get
there sooner and still have a decent reserve. I expect an average of around
6 kts so our estimated days are close to 20. If we get more favorable
wind/wave/currents then it'll be less. Perhaps as little as 16 days. OTOH,
if we have engine/transmission/prop or other issues slowing us down it could
take longer.....much longer ;-) By the number of grocery carts that have
dumped their contents aboard we have "dining" for 2 for 6 months or
subsistence food for 2 for a couple of years!

Even tho the E Pacific Hurricane season started on May 15th the incidence of
tropical storms North of 20 degrees is virtually nil over the last 100 years
or so before the 1st of July. So we should be safe from them but do have to
deal with the tropical waves that do bring more moisture in with the
attendant squall lines that can develop.

Both of our Satphone systems are bricked. GlobalStar doesn't have service in
their normal coverage areas let along the fringes. Our Iridium needed a new
SIM for some reason. A new SIM arrived and for some reason it couldn't be
activated here in Mexico. A puzzling issue but one the they say can be cured
by buying a SIM here in Mexico but there isn't one with the next day air
window which is really "one week air here in La Paz". No worries as we've
done thousands of sea miles with the old SSB, wefax's and voice.

As you know Swan Song has a single engine with no back-up other than windage
& ocean drift. So we'll be nice to our Detroit 6-71 and hope it'll be nice
to us :-)

Nancy is taking the big silver bird as her knee is really painful. A TKR is
in her near term future in HI. I have a friend from Hawaii, Bill Beadle,
that has arrived so my thoughts of single handing the passage evaporated
much to Nancy's relief.

We will post our logs once we arrive on Nancy website,
www.missnancysjournal.com and also a passage summary here.
