You could try Cornell's All About Birds site: http://www.allaboutbirds.org/guide/search. It's searchable, and provides audio clips, as well as other species information.

Last night at about 11 PM, I was serenaded by an Owl that must have been right outside my window. Is there a sight I can go on to try to id what Owl was here?
