A photo was taken of a barn owl - http://www.pbase.com/drhangar/image/56622880 in the last couple of days. The photographer has not reported it but did include directions and a map in the link above.

Hi Linda. Do you have more details about this sighting. In his gallery where the photo is posted, the author does not say when he took it. How do you know it was in the last couple of days? By the way, the author of this photo appears to be particularly gifted for finding rare raptors. Last Spring, a photo of an Harris Hawk that he had allegedly photographed in Southern Québec was posted on the Québec forum Ornitho-QC. Thanks for any clarification you can provide. Hi Linda, Langis and everyone. I'm the one that took the shot. Not very familiar with the area, and not having a details map of all farm roads. Having a good memory though, I looked on google map to get me the name of the roads where I saw the beauty. This was taken on Feb 27 (Monday), at 14h00 or so. Followed the main road which is Dundela, and there's a little side road at an angle which I believe is Ridge rd. There's a lot of farms in the area. This where I took the shot. The bird was standing perched on one of the wooden post which separates 2 farms (I believe). Stopped the vehicule, stayed in it and move on the drivers seat to take the shot with the window down. Then it took off going in a direction where my view was obstucted by the car roof, etc... It landed quite far away. I'm not good at distance, but over 1000 feet away and was resting on another wooden post. I waited for some time, guess the bird didn't like a red vehicule waiting like this. So I left the spot. My initial idea was to find some Snowy Owl, I carried on in the sector looking for more. No luck that time. Thanks Eric for clarifying. I should apologize to you for raising questions. When I saw Linda's posting this morning, my first thought was to get there and try my chances at seeing the Barn Owl which would be a first for me in Canada. Since I could not find the date of your sighting on the web page where your photo was posted (someone has since explained to me how to find it), I thought I should inquire about it. I should have tried to contact you directly, instead of sending my question on ontbirds. The fact that I thought other members of this forum might also have wanted to know more should not have been a consideration. Congratulations for your findings and for the great photos that are exhibited on your site. My apologies to you as well Linda.
