Observation start time: 06:00:00
Observation end time: 13:00:00
Total observation time: 7 hours
Official Counter: Colin Horstead
Observers: Jim Dunn, Keith Sealy
Visitors:
A few visitors today....Shay R. with a friend Paul...and Tom Stewart
(London). Thanks to the diehards who were out to count today...Colin,
Keith and Jim.
Weather:
With a low pressure system passing throught the Great Lakes region , the
weather was again messy...cloud cover ranged from 30% to 100%....though we
managed to dodge the rain for most of the day till the last hour of the
count when it began to drizzle. Temp started at 18C and climbed to 23C.
Winds were strong from NNE and then switched ENE, then to SE and finally to
S.
Raptor Observations:
Not a bad flight for the kind of day it was...a total of 195....with
Sharpies (125), Kestrels (47), TV's (5), Osprey (6), Bald Eagle (1),
Harriers (6), BW's (3), Merlin (1) and 1 adult Peregrine that passed just
beside the knoll and at treetop height.
Non-raptor Observations:
A flock of 300 Cormorants was spotted headed west towards Port Stanley.
There were also 3 Chimney Swifts, a single adult Red-headed
Woodpecker...with warblers including Magnolia, Ovenbird and many many
Blackpolls. A couple of RT hummingbirds...and a lot of monarchs on the
move.
Predictions:
Winds may not be the best unless they stay somewaht SW. At least there's
supposed to be mostly sun and cloud and no rain.
