<!-- DIV {margin:0px;} -->body{font-size:10pt;font-family:arial,sans-serif;background-color:#ffffff;color:black;}p{margin:0px;}**Aug 7: Wednesday Races canceled due to Weather!**- 14 Wednesdays have come and gone: 7 Series Races Completed (7 for Spinnaker, 6 only for Non-Spin);1 Pursuit Race completed. 6 Spin and 7 Non-spin races abandoned.
  • 4 Wednesdays to come: 3 Series Races through August 28th, 1 Pursuit Race September 4.

Lots of rain and lighting last night, not much wind. Conditions and the forecast thunderstorms resulted in the Race Committee canceling races for Wednesday evening, August 7th.

As we enter the back half of the sailing and racing season, at least a few skippers were wondering how to best position themselves to win at least one of our season series. The simplest prescription is to win a lot of races. Of course, time constraints limit the availability off skippers (and crew!) to participate in "a lot of races". And we'd welcome anyone who can provide an easy way to win them!

There are at most 3 races left for the Wednesday Series, but it's plenty close among the top competitors:

  • The top 4 Non-Spin boats are at 5, 7, 11, 12 in total points (counting 4 races after 2 throwouts), So 3 more races can certainly change the standings, especially if any have a DNC (as Sheba will next week).
  • Likewise the top 4 Spinnaker boats are at 7, 10, 13, 15 total points (counting 5 races after 2 throwouts). Again 3 more races, and any DNCs, may make a big change in the standings.

With so many abandoned races on Wednesday, boats qualifying for the Fleet Champ (minimum of 20 races throughout the season) will have to participate in 10 or more NBC Sunday races or NBC and HRYRA regattas. In addition to the coming Wednesdays, there are probably at least 20+ weekend races left in the season. So plenty of chances to qualify for Fleet Champ or Sunday/Regatta awards.

  • 7 non-regatta Sundays Aug 11 - Oct 6: assume 70% have 2 races, that would be about 10 races.  (Note, we need two boats to start and one to finish to count a race.)
  • NBC Fall Regatta Sept 7-8: 3+ races:
  • NBC/HRYRA Long Distance Race Sep 28: 1 race
  • NBC/HRYRA Last Chance Regatta Oct 5-6: 3+ races
  • HRYRA/Shattemuc Regatta Sept 6-7: 3+ races
  • HRYRA/Minisceongo Sutherland Cup Sept 6-7: 3+ races

Below find each Fleet Champ competitors number of qualifying races so far for Fleet Champ and Sunday/Regatta series, followed by the Season Series Leaders.
