I use Chevron Delo 400 straight 40 wt. in my Lehman. Easy to find on the Gulf
Coast anyway. I switched from Rotella because it was too hard to find around
here. I get it at any auto supply place.

<snip> Have any DD operators found
a good source of the straight 40 weight
oil?

NAPA stores in boating areas
often have Shell Rotella 40. If not, they can get
it overnight.

fine in Lehman, but one of the Delo can NOT be used in DDs. it was ok until
reformulated a few years ago but after the reformulation DD put out a SB
stating it should no longer be used. sorry, cant' remember which one is
ok...delo 400 or 100

DD branded straight 40 can be found thru most DD dealers, incl DD truck
dealers. an alternative is Rotella 40 my local DD marine dealer stocks or
avail a many auto part stores.

in any case, straight 40 only !  no multiweight in older DD (53, 71 or 92)

I have always used Rotella 40, and used to have the O'Reileys on Nasa Rd in
Seabrook, Tx order it. They would just bring it out of their warehouse the
next day. As luck would have it, just as I'm experimenting with switching to
multigrade, (running the multi in one engine and straight 40 in the other) I
notice that they now stock the Rotella 40 in gallons. Don't know if Detroits
use something different, but I would assume that any O'Reileys that don't
stock the Rotella could get it next day.

By the way, I keep very accurate records of oil useage, writing down every
make up quart I add, and after about 200 hours and 2 oil changes with useing
the multi in one engine and straight in the other, I can see no difference
in performance between the two. My main reason for wanting to change is that
the multi-grade is much more widely available. Even Wally-world and Sams
have the multi.

By the way, while we are on the subject of lubricants, if you go to a
commercial Shell store in Canada, be sure to also pick up some "SRS 2000
Extreme" grease. This stuff is a highly water-resistant heavy duty grease.
It's incredible for stuffing boxes. The price is right too... I think that I
paid about $25 for a case of 6 tubes.

Sadly, it does not appear to be available in the US.

i checked after i posted this, Delo 100 is the one you want for DDs, NOT
delo 400... since it was re formulated a few years ago, DD recommends
against it,  something about sulfated ash content
