Great Lakes Ice #10

Finally, last night (6-10-14) Brian Williams on the NBC Evening News announced that the USCG had declared the Great Lakes ice free after one of the coldest winters in history. But the fringe benefits of that are higher lake levels, mostly from the heavy snows across the region this past winter. That is good for recreational boaters as well as the big guys -- commercial shipping. Unfortunately, there won’t be much swimming in the upper lakes this year because of the cold water. Local TV stations are running reports on the evening news to stay out of the water lest hypothermia set in. Of course, 10 seconds in that water will convince just about any sane person to get out, fast.
