Cruising America's Great Loop and other inland routes
View all threadsHi All,
I think most of the time we encounter pump out fees of $5 or $10 at marinas.
Along the Erie Canal last summer most city docks had coin operated
do-it-yourself pump outs for $1-$2 or even free with a token from the local
visitor center.
The most expensive one we found was along the Trent-Severn, called one
marina and they wanted $35CD, we waited till the next town. That particular
marina was isolated and they had to have all their sewage trucked out - that
was why they were so expensive.
We stayed at Grand Harbor Marina the winter of 07/08, great place. At least
on our dock the slips had pump-out hookups for do-it-yourself at no charge.
If you aren't spending the night or buying any other services then charging
$5 or $10 seems reasonable to me.
I have also asked most of the young people working in the marinas as summer
jobs if they were ever told about pump-outs before they hired on - the
universal answer is "NO, They Never Mentioned IT!" Ahhhh the things you
have to learn when growing up.
