TWL: "Alligator"

This afternoon a trawler named "Alligator" slipped by my house--interesting
boat--looked to be about 50 feet long, perhaps a workboat or converted navy
hull.  Pilot house well foreward, and a trunk cabin with square ports aft.
About three feet over the trunk cabin was a hard top extended all the way
form the pilot house to the stern (similar to Defever 48).  There was a
sugar scoop type of swim step, and the dinghy carried with the end of the
pontoons on the swim step, and the bow lashed to the hard top--sort of
upside down, with the motor attatched.  Dark green hull, white trunk
cabin--tracking satelite dish on the hard top.  Does anyone of the list know
this boat?

Bob,

The boat was designed by a fellow named Bob.  Bob and his wife Ching have a
design studio and business somewhere in the Perdido Key area.  Bob used to
have a web site where he posted graphics of the design and pictures showing
progess of construction.  If I remember correctly the hull is a large
LaFitte skiff form with very shallow draft.  Construction is plywood and
epoxy and single diesel propulsion.  I can't remember much else and have
lost the web address.  I just did some limited searching with Google and
could not find it again.

Maybe being a little closer to him you will be able to track him down

Good luck and let us know if you find out more.

Bob Austin,

Take a look at
http://www.st.nmfs.gov/st1/commercial/landings/cg_vessel2.html    Do a
search for "alligator".  I bet the boat you saw is number 1 or 2  on the
list.    great site to spend time while at work.  no pictures, (if he comes
into your office) it looks like your doing something to make money for the
boss ;) ...jd  .
