Re: TWL: Three (boating) things I can't live without...

  1. Remote control for the autopilot. I can find a variety of cozy spots
to steer from when on a passage. When coming up river I steer constantly
using the remote except when in congested areas.

  2. My trash bin. The PO built a wooden bin against a bulk head that is
sufficiently tall and wide to hold a large trash bag. At the top it is
about 12" or so deep (front to back). The depth then tapers down to
about 6" at the bottom. This adds a surprising amount of foot room to
the adjacent passageway, and it makes it easier to remove a full bag.
The whole thing has a hinged lid with fiddles that makes a handy surface
next to the companionway. Why don't boat builders ever think about the
    need for a trash can?

  3. Not exactly a "boating" thing but... my folding easy chair. It's one
of those metal tube and canvas things with an adjustable footrest and
headrest that scissors down to fit in 6" diameter carrying bag. My mate
liked them so much she made me buy 4 so that the crew wouldn't mutiny.
The black feet do not mark my white deck. Bought them at Sam's.

So now I can steer with my remote from my easy chair on the forward deck
in the shade of the awning while cruising up the river, and with a good
bank shot I can hit the deluxe trash bin with my empties.
