12/23/2013 Sandhill Crane, Snowy Owls

From Matthew Caligiure and Frank Labbate:
12/24/13 - Stratford, Long Beach -- Snowy Owl.
Oak Bluff Ave, in wetland area on the right hand side, directly before
entering Long Beach Parking lot -- SANDHILL CRANE (photographed and
identity confirmed).

From Dan Rottino:
12/24/13 - Stratford, Long Beach -- 8:24 AM; 2 SNOWY OWLS in the
parking lot.

From Jack Swatt:
12/24/13 - Wallingford, Stop & Shop on Rt 68 -- Iceland Gull still
present in the morning.

From Frank Mantlik:
12/24/13 - Stratford, Beacon Point Rd -- the 1st-winter ICELAND GULL
was hovering over and landed in the sewage plant 9 AM. It has a bent
primary or secondary on the left wing.

From Tim Wininger:
12/24/13 - Madison, Hammonasset State Park -- Northern Pintail in the
parking lot across from the pond on the west beach side.

From Fran, Tom, Jeff, and Chris Holloway:
12/24/13 - Killingworth, Chatfield Hollow State Park -- 12:00 noon; 1
BROWN CREEPER (and many other interesting birds) in the pines of the
large picnic area just southwest of the dam on the lake.

From Julian Hough:
12/24/13 - Stratford, Long Beach / Sikorsky -- 2 SNOWY OWLS out in the
marsh, 1 SHORT-EARED OWL, 1 dark morph ROUGH-LEGGEED HAWK.
Editor's Note: I believe Julian also saw (and photographed) a
Kumlien's Gull subspecies of Iceland Gull.  In any case he blogged
about it, including pictures.

12/24/13 - Barkhamsted yard -- 1 Pine Siskin (mixed in with up to 60
goldfinches) continues for the 5th day.  Fox Sparrow reappeared after
a couple days hiatus. Also today (and continuing for week+), 2
Ring-necked Pheasants, Yellow-bellied Sapsucker.
