Ever heard of a noncontact thermometer? Well I haven't until I found it at
NAPA.
It is made by Raytek. You use a built in laser to aim it and it instantly
tells you the temperature of the object by measuring the surface temp using
infrared thermometers.
Copied from the literature-"The unit's optics sense emitted, reflected and
transmitted energy, which is collected and focused into a detector. the
unit's electronics translate the information into a temperature reading
which is displayed on the unit. "
It measures from 0 to 500 degrees F.
I can't wait to find uses for it, such as scanning(by holding the trigger) a
coil or radiator to find a hot spot or cold spot, reading the exhaust temp,
the manifold temp, and even the temp of the air coming from AC ducts. Cost
$100.00
Boy I love gadgets!
No financial interests of course.....

The nurses at our local hospital use something like ti. A device held
into your ear gives instant body temp reading. The probe actually
doesn't touch anything - it's just aimed at th inner ear. Works very
well.
