Big(er) sailboat-Chicago to Mobile

Would like to hear from anyone about taking a sailboat on this  part of the
loop. The boat is a 44' ketch, 6'5" draft, mainmast tip of  VHF antenna 58'
above the water. We would be arriving Chicago late July early  August. We prefer
anchoring out and stopping at marinas only occasionally. We  have plenty of
time (newly retired) and only need to stay ahead of the cold  weather all the
way to Mobile.

Thank you,
Bryce & Cynthia

We did that leg last fall in a 37' Island Packet with a 51 foot mast.

You can find lots of places to anchor on the rivers.  There will be lists in
the new Skipper Bob book 'anchoring on the river system' or some similar
name.

You can get your mast our at Larsens in Waukegan, Il for a lot less than
Crowley's. They are very good and we had our mast shipped to Tennessee for
$900.
