Dear SCC members,
It’s almost spring, and the Salida Cycling Club is gearing up for what looks like a great year of cycling and cycling-related events. This year we’re focused on making some improvements to the club and are excited to work with you to help celebrate and enjoy the cycling mecca that is Chaffee County.
Mark your calendars for SCC’s Membership Soirée on April 14 from 5:30-8pm at the Church at 419 D St. We want to thank you for being a part of the club, hear from you about your recent and future cycling adventures, and share our plans for 2017. Come join SCC for 2017 and enjoy an evening with fellow Salida cyclists and enjoy delicious food and drinks, thanks to our sponsors Amica’s and Elevation. We can’t wait to see you there!
We’ll share more at the party, but as a sneak peek, here are a few of the items on SCC’s agenda for 2017:
Doing a better job of meeting the needs of all of our community’s riders – including mountain bikers, road cyclists, and recreational riders. We’ve already got a lot of good ideas for fun cycling related events and activities through 2017 – this includes happy hour rides, ongoing group rides, clinics, presentations from cycling know-it-alls, and of course the summer Salida Classic omnium. But we also need your input! Keep an eye out for a brief survey where you can share with us what you’d like to see from your hometown cycling club. Stay tuned!
Improving communications with our members and the community. We’ve been using a hodgepodge of communications tools, and we know that they don’t always work together in perfect harmony to ensure important info and updates get out at the right time to everyone. However, we’re making progress. We’ve got a new website in the works, which will serve as a hub – and we’ll also be updating our listserv technology, making our Facebook page more active, and potentially adding regular email updates. (We’ll ask you about this in the upcoming survey.)
Amping up our advocacy work to ensure that Salida supports cycling infrastructure and safety through engagement with our city, county and national and state advocacy cycling clubs. Salida is a bronze level “Bicycle friendly Community” – an award given by the League of American bicyclists. Higher award levels include silver, gold, and platinum. We will be pursuing strategies to make Salida an even better place to ride a bicycle.
<>Increasing transparency and partnerships in the community. SCC supports a lot of great initiatives – including the high school mountain bike team and getting bike lights to kids so they can stay safe as they ride around town and on the trails. We want our members to know more, and be more involved, in our community initiatives – so you know we’re putting our money where our wheels are. We’re aiming to do a better job of sharing our activities with you and gathering member input on what we should be supporting. We’ll also be looking to increase partnerships with community organizations – including our fantastic sponsors and like-minded groups.
Thanks for continuing to support SCC and we hope we can work together to make 2017 the club’s best year yet!

It just occurred to me that we usually have extra beer and food at the end of the night.
Feel free to bring growlers and to go containers, if you are going to be hanging out until 8PM and want to help us utilize the excess!
