HILLTOP BUSINESS ASSOCIATION ANNOUNCES HILLTOP TACOMA FILM COMPETITION
Filmmakers to tell inspirational stories and feature Tacoma’s Hilltop
District
Tacoma, WA, June 24, 2015– The Hilltop Business Association, sponsor of
Hilltop Street Fair Tacoma 2015, is proud to announce the Hilltop Tacoma
Film Competition, which is NOW OPEN to all filmmakers!
Screenings and Award Announcements will occur August 22, 2015 at the
Hilltop Street Fair Tacoma.
The Competition offers a great opportunity for regional filmmakers to add
to their credits and demonstrate their talent to Hilltop Street Fair and
regional audiences.
Hilltop Street Fair 2015 Coordinator, Kristie Worthey, is excited to
include this first time film competition to the enhanced arts offerings at
this year’s Hilltop Street Fair. “The film competition is an exciting way
to increase awareness of the possibilities, potential, and opportunities of
Tacoma’s Hilltop District. We are thrilled by the support of Tacoma
Historical Society, Swinton Woolfe Creative, and Community Health Care. We
are especially pleased to have Centro Latino as a venue for screenings and
Hilltop Action Coalition as a partner.”
The Competition will offer a $100 monetary award to the winner of each of
the following categories:
Tacoma Historical Society Award for Best Short Historical Documentary
Swinton Woolfe Award for Best Short Drama
*Community Health Care Award for Best Short Comedy *
An Audience Choice Award will also be announced. All participants will
receive a certificate of participation.
Here is the deal:
*The filmmaker, with the cast and the crew, (or just alone with a camera
and laptop!) is challenged to make a five to ten minute short film in their
chosen category. The task is to write a script, direct the actors, shoot
the film, edit, sound and music, and deliver the film (USB flash/thumb
drive) by 5pm August 3rd to the Hilltop Action Coalition office located at:
1115 Earnest Brazill St., Tacoma, WA 98405 Instructions: Films will be
shown to all ages audiences so all submissions should follow PG-13
guidelines. All film categories are to be filmed in Tacoma’s Hilltop
District. *
*Submissions in the Documentary category, must be historical in nature with
Tacoma and the Hilltop District as the primary focus. Filmmakers will have
access to the archives at Tacoma Historical Society for purposes of
creating or researching their film. *
*All categories should include at least one of the following elements:
sunshine, music performance, art creation or any of the public art pieces
located on Hilltop, a bicycle. Each category will be viewed and judged by
a panel including professional film makers, community leaders, and sponsor
representatives. There will be support and information available to help
and advise the participants prior to and throughout the submission period
if required. There is no registration fee. All submissions must meet the
above guidelines for approval for public screenings. *
The Hilltop Tacoma Film Competition will be a most helpful platform to
promote filmmakers’ future work. The competition is a fast and effective
way of adding to credits, creating a show-reel for actors, crew and the
production team. Participants, Sponsors, and the Hilltop Business
Association will have permission to use winning films to promote their work
and the Hilltop District to the community and region.

The Hilltop Tacoma Film Competition is part of the enhanced arts offerings
of the Hilltop Street Fair 2015 and the Hilltop Business Association.
Support is also provided by an Arts Projects Grant from the Tacoma Arts
Commission, sponsorship by Tacoma Historical Society, Swinton Woolfe
Creative, and Community Health Care and by partners such as Centro Latino
and the Hilltop Action Coalition.
