The Great Lakes boating season is winding, at least on Lake Superior.
Anyway, after about 7 years of Coast Guard harassment, I have hardly seen
them this year. In past years, we were stopped or boarded at least once a
year. In fact, we often were stopped several times a year, but when they
saw our VSC sticker they usually passed us by.
This year, I have hardly seen the CG anywhere on Lake Superior. They have
been laying low. Anybody else notice a difference? I know the USCG 9th
District (Great Lakes) took a lot of heat in the past for boater
harassment. I have not even noticed their usual training exercises. Or is
it that they are just tightening their belt and burning less fuel rather
than going out and bugging boaters? In the past, I would see them almost
every day. Anybody have any ideas?

Perhaps they have shifted their surface patrol resources up towards the
Canadian border? Let's hope that they are harboring some surface assets to
come to your rescue. Of course, they do have rotary wing assets to come to
your assistance along with the ability to coordinate local resources on your
behalf.
