Visitors:
Thanks to Noel and Juliette and Peter for helping with observing, counting
and taking some great photos of passing birds. It was good to see Josh
again and we were glad to help him increase his life list. It was good to
meet Jeff who stayed a while observing birds on the Marsh and was lucky to
see the passing Rough-legged Hawk.
Weather:
Another warm day with temperatures reaching high teens in the afternoon.
The wind has been light from the south all day. Cloud cover has been
variable from almost overcast to nearly clear.
Raptor Observations:
A day notable for quality not quantity; Singles of Red-shouldered Hawk,
Golden Eagle, a nice light phase Rough-legged Hawk and a first of the
season immature American Goshawk. Turkey Vultures (94) and Sharp-shinned
Hawks (91) almost matched for numbers, with Sharpies peaking mid morning
and TVs moseying along after mid morning. A few Red-tailed Hawks (8) came
by during the day.
Non-raptor Observations:
Ducks again dominated the scene with ten species seen. Ring-necked Duck
(330) numbers were lower today, with American Coot (515) numbers
increasing, spread all over the marsh. There was a nice fly past of Greater
Yellowlegs (22) and Blue Jays (1870) seem still to be coming through in
reasonable numbers. The female Eastern Towhee appeared again in the shrubs
east of the Tower. In the Afternoon the skies were again dominated by
European Starlings (7380). The list is at

Predictions:
Looks a good day tomorrow with moderate winds generally from the North,
partially cloudy and reduced temperatures. Lets hope the Raptors agree and
appear in greater numbers.
