In going back to the Nordhavn website and comparison with the Kady Krogen, I
note that the KK Whaleback 48 and Manatee are no longer in production--that
the emphasis is on the long range cruising boats.  Obviously both companies
are betting on the "dream" of long range cruising.  I though that the
whaleback offered an alternative for long range coastal cruising--giving some
of the advantages of boats like the GH 37 with range and seaworthyness of the
traditional passagemaking boats.

In my choice of a production boat for crossing oceans, the Nordhavn 46 remains
top of the list.  Probably the ultimate would ba a 60 foot narrow pilot house,
flush deck passagemaker custom built.  For coastal cruising I still prefer the
sundeck type of motoryacht--for room and affordability.

There are a number of alternate hull forms and construction techniques, which
can be built by skilled amatures which offer a number of alternatives with
effeciency, seaworthyness and rugged hulls.  Unfortunately the individual boat
owner has to mold to what production boat is available rather than finding the
most suitable boat for his purpose.
