Thanks but this is a canister style that holds a cartridge style filter.
This is not the spin on type easy to replace type filter. So I can release
the top bolt and most will drain back but as soon as I release the bolt oil
starts to flow from the bottom seal of the canister as well.

Mine is that way on my Lehman 135. I just punch a couple of holes in the
top
when I start the oil change with a nail, marlinspike, or whatever's around.
The oil will drain back into the engine, and it's not nearly as messy. I
change the filter last.
