Fw: heavy duty crimpers

I borrowed a friend's HF crimper and loved it. Bought one on eBay for $47.50

  • $9.95 shipping. Either I was blissfully ignorant or did it wrong but I've
made a dozen or so 00 crimps with the dies provided and I am happy with the
    results.

Now.

I see little use for the awg 12 dies as the ratcheting, hand crimper is just
as good and quicker. So. How bout modifying this to 0000? Think the dies
could be placed nose to nose in a shop vice and drilled out in a drill press
or done on a milling machine. What would be a good diameter bore to insure
the correct crimp?

Use as a swaging tool?

Regards.

Ed,
Snip:"...Any recommendations on a lower cost solution that works? Harbor
Freight has a hydraulic crimp tool that does 2/0...."

I bought the harbor freight one and it works well but to crimp the 2/0 I
had
to open up a die to fit using a grinder & metal file  (the dies are not
that
hard).  It looks handy to also be used to swage and it comes with enough
dies that are easy to modify for other purposes.  Hard to beat for the
money
for even comes with a spare set of o rings to rebuild the hydraulic ram.

Cheers,

Joe
