Dear Colleagues,

Happy summer! I am writing with a quick update about the Society and reminder of funding opportunities.

Firstly, let me announce that we have extended the deadline for submitting proposals for AAS panel support to Friday, July 20th. If you are planning to submit a panel proposal to AAS, please consider submitting it to us first for potential Society support. Although funding is contingent on AAS acceptance, SSYCDS backing can be very helpful in being accepted. The application process is designed to reflect that for AAS panels: all we ask is a draft of your application proposal to AAS, applicant cv, and the names and contact information of the proposed panelists. A copy of the regular announcement appears below.

Secondly, our election has drawn to a satisfactory close and we have a full slate of Board members to help continue the work of the Society. Please join me in congratulating our new members, Ping FOONG and Mark HALPERIN, and our returning member Ruth MOSTERN! We very much appreciate your willingness to serve. On behalf of the entire Board, I would like to also express our deep gratitude to Man XU and Ya ZUO for standing with their colleagues for election.

Finally, I would like to extend congratulations to Peter LORGE and Man XU on their recent promotions to Associate Professor with tenure at Vanderbilt and Tufts, respectively. Although I made this announcement earlier to the member list, the listserv is a slightly different group—my apologies for cross postings. If anyone else has news of recent awards or promotions please let our Secretary Reiko SHINNO or me know. We would be happy to make the announcement to both membership and listserv and, once completed (hopefully by the end of the summer!), post it to our new Society website.

With best wishes for a continued relaxing and productive summer,

Tracy Miller

Panel support announcement for AAS 2019
Given the resounding success of last year’s panels, the Society for Song, Yuan, and Conquest Dynasty Studies will again offer sponsorship for two panels in our research timeframe for the 2019 AAS. The selected panels will receive official recognition by the Society on the conference program. Additionally, panelists will receive funds to offset the cost of participation, including conference registration and $100/person for travel costs for up to five participants (typically the panel chair and four panelists, but other configurations are possible). Final proposals will be subject to the regular application requirements and selection process of AAS and funding is contingent on AAS acceptance (application deadline August 1, 2018). If you would like to apply for SSYCDS sponsorship, please send a cv, draft proposal, and names and contact information of panel participants to the Secretary (Reiko Shinno SHINNOR@uwec.edu).
